How Do You Warm Up Before A Run?

Here's the thing, when I started running I would do a brisk 5 minute walk then run and then stretch when I got back home. I'm so used to doing this I've never thought of doing anything else but  I'm running much earlier now and its getting really cold and I'm tempted to just get out and run, was just wondering what everyone else does

I used to do that as well. I think it's because C25K mandated it.

Nowadays I just get outside and start running.

I will normally do a short warmup jog before a race though.

Woah - hold on their abby!!

Now I'm very much known by my friends for not stretching before or after runs, and mostly I got away with it.

Other than one morning in spring. I'd just woken up, pulled on my running clothes and went out to run 5k. I'm fairly sure that that run started my plantar fasciitis. I tried to run through it the next week, ran less than 3k, and then could hardly even walk for 2-3 days, and running took another 6 weeks.

If you do no warm up at all, then at least do some easy stretching. Your muscles will be cold so they won't stretch much, but they need to be stretched after sleep, during which they (and in particular your calves) will have shortened...

i'm bad for warming up; i typically just "get out there and run", although lately i have taken a few miles to get into whatever training pace i'm running that day...

i usually take time to stretch afterwards though :)
