Shock and disbelief, I'm down 2lbs. 12lbs in all
So what do I think? I lost 12lbs in 28 days, I didn't feel as if I was on a diet most of the time, I liked most of the meals, it was very convenient just heat and eat. I also learnt quite a lot from the Go Lower forum and got regular supportive calls from very friendly Go Lower staff.
Although it doesn't seem like a diet, it is, I've come to realize that for me, losing weight is all about self control, I make a lot of bad choices with food if I could just start to make healthier choices and eat in moderation, I'll be fine. So I'm going to stop moaning and get on with my running and see if everything falls into place.
EDIT: I wrote this on the 4th of December but was in one of my avoid my blog moods which thankfully I'm finally over today (18th of January, lol) but a month on I haven't put on any more weight and have lost a few more!

"Weigh" to go!
LOL, thanks Andrew, I think I saw that as a title of a blog!
well done you! I am sorry I didn't hang on in there with you but I found the whole thing pretty demoralising. I was almost constantly hungry and constipated, yuck. I guess it suits some people and not others.
Congratulations. How is everything going in '09?
Hi Abi,
That's great news! Congrats!
Was just checking in here to see what's been going on with you. Hope all's well.
BTW, one observation I thought I'd share with you is this: I found that it's a lot easier, mentally speaking, to eat healthfully when running/working out! Don't know about you, but I seem to have a magic directive to eat things that are good for me (most of the time!) when I'm regularly working out, because I'm making positive progress & feeling good about it. It's much easier to do when all of the other "gears are clicking into place." You know what I mean?
I'm not saying that I'm a "food saint" (not by a long shot! LOL!), but only that exercise seems to really helped my eating behaviors. It's like I know how much work it takes to burn off the food I eat, so I'm less inclined to eat junk. Because that would take far more work to burn off! ;-) LOL!
Also, when I was trying to lose weight, I used another effective strategy, which I'd like to mention here. (Of course, you don't have to use it if it doesn't work for you, but maybe you'd find it useful....)
Anyhow, here it is: On the weekends, I gave myself a bit of latitude in my eating, & ate some "treats." This is not to say that I went overboard, but rather made the treat into a special weekly occasion. :) For example, you might go out for dinner & eat a more caloric or higher fat dinner one night than you'd normally eat during the week, or might treat yourself to a bag of potato chips or something sweet for dessert, etc. I cannot tell you how much of a life-saver this approach was! This took the pressure off & kept me from completely losing my resolve during the week. ;-) Also, if necessary, sometimes I'd switch things up & change that day to a week day instead of a weekend, depending on my schedule. This way, the emphasis is not on "being perfect" like as is the case with most diets & other short-term meal plans, but rather on reinforcing & rewarding reasonable eating behaviors while still making progress.
The ironic thing is that once I let myself have the treat, I could relax & just eat healthy during the remainder of the week, because I knew that come next weekend, I would be able to let loose some.
So, for me it eventually became less of an issue of "self-control" & more of an issue of focusing on where I wanted to be. In other words, the desire to get to my goal overruled all of the other focuses. :) The positive emphasis of where I was going & what good things I was gaining by doing & reinforcing healthy behaviors become a more of a motivator & an effective method for success versus the type of thinking/focus which focused on what I might be missing. ;-)
OK, that's my two cents. Hope you find it helpful! :)
Cheers,
-C
Where have you been? Hope all is well....
Dang girl, I hope you are coming back to Blogville! Hope everything is ok, feel free to hit me up!
I am currently training for the Best of the Boardrooms Virtual 5K put on by Healthiest Executive. I've lost 10 lbs while training for only about 4 weeks. Feels great!
Good Luck with the weight loss!
Hi Abi
Just wondered if you were still running this year and if you managed to keep off the weight you lost.
Many of my clients have a similar problem of selecting the right types of foods to eat, it's ok when things are going well but it's often one of the first things to suffer once they hit any turbelence in their lives.
Anyway, hope you are still doing well, great blog, by the way -
Jago
